Course Description: Continuity of care: Practice in which primary caregivers and children stay together for the children’s first 3 years-emphasizing continuity of routines and interactions throughout the day. Culturally sensitive care: Responsive practices that acknowledge, respect, and engage families in sharing child-rearing practices that support the optimal development and care of their children in programs that reflect their home cultures and values. Continuity of Care provides the deep connections that infants and toddlers need for quality care, primary caregivers and children together for three years of infancy, or the time the child is enrolled in care. Culturally Sensitive Care, a sense of cultural competence, caregivers learn to be open and responsive to families, acknowledge and respect difference, and work to support child rearing practices to support optimal development for the child.
